Responsible for protecting, preserving and managing Wiyot cultural resources.  Reviews Timber Harvest plans, Federal, State, County and local city projects.  Oversees activities related to NAGPRA, ARPA, Historic Preservation Section 106, State laws and other repatriation activities.  The department has been working to restore the Wiyot Language.

Does your project require cultural monitoring services?  

The Wiyot Tribe provides cultural monitoring services upon completion of the cultural monitoring  contract agreement.   The client must provide at least 72 hours notice on normal business days before a monitor is needed to the job site.  The Tribe will provide a final report on monitor findings.  The final report may contain confidential information, requiring it to be restricted information (not available to the public).  To schedule a cultural monitor contact Helene Rouvier (707) 733-5055 and complete a cultural monitoring contract agreement.

Tribal Historic Preservation Office

The Wiyot Tribal Historic Preservation Office, one of only 30 Tribal Historic Preservation Offices throughout the United States, is responsible for protecting, preserving and managing Wiyot cultural resources on tribal land.



Wiyot Language Program 

  The Wiyot Tribe recognizes that Language revitalization is fundamental to the survival of Wiyot culture.  To this end the Tribe has been working to restore the Wiyot language through the development of the Wiyot Language program.  This program is guided by a committee of elders who make decisions on the development of the language curriculum, pronunciation, and other language issues.  The tribe also maintains a part-time Language Program Coordinator to oversee this program.  For more information about the language program email Joycelyn Teague at
